The concept of artists raising financial support through fans isn’t new. In 1999 rock band Marillion financed a record entirely through fan pre-sales after they were dropped from their major label. A few years later the popular Britpop band Dodgy were also discarded by their label after a line-up change, so Dodgy asked fans to fund the recording of a new album in return for a CD of demo tracks and a mention on the artwork. Dodgy and Marillion sidestepped the middle-men by simply responding to demand among their fans. Their example remains a great inspiration for Cherry Echo.
